1989 Janet Jennings “Peace and Plenty” Large Oil on Canvas Hamptons Landscape in a Giltwood Frame

$6,500.00

“Peace and Plenty” is a luminous large scale oil on canvas in a giltwood frame by acclaimed American painter Janet Jennings. Capturing a summer day in the Amagansett, the composition unfolds in layers of saturated blues, soft sand tones and vibrant greens, framed by a terrace foreground that draws the viewer into the scene.

Jennings balances structure and spontaneity with a confident command of color. The foreground table, florals, and geometric accents introduce a sense of intimacy, while the expansive sky and water beyond evoke light, air, and distance. The result is a beautiful painting that feels both grounded yet expansive. Signed on verso.

After receiving her BFA from the University of Dayton and studying at The Dayton Art Institute, Antioch College, and The Art Students League, Jennings built a career spanning abstract color study, landscape, and figurative work. Influenced by Josef Albers, Ellsworth Kelly, and Johannes Itten, her practice reflects a deep sensitivity to hue, spatial relationships, and emotional tone.

Jennings maintained a studio at Waverly Studios in New York City and later relocated to Amagansett, where the surrounding ocean and countryside reshaped her visual language. She has exhibited widely across New York and the Hamptons and has been included alongside artists such as Alex Katz, Hunt Slonem, Sam Francis, and Donald Baechler. Her work resides in numerous corporate and private collections worldwide. From 1993 to 1998, she served as Chair of the Andy Warhol Visual Arts Preserve Program and has taught at The Parrish Art Museum, Guild Hall, and The Victor D’Amico Institute of Art.

This painting is a strong example of Jennings’ mature landscape period, where color becomes both subject and atmosphere. Its scale and presence make it ideal for anchoring a living room, dining space, or gallery style interior.
